Peter, approximately a 1 hour leisurely drive. You could of course combine it with a stop at Argostoli - although I prefer Argostoli at night - especially the town platia.<div>

Kefalonia is beautiful, we go to Agia Efimia, Assos is beautiful, quiet and relaxing, you must visit Fiskardo as well, as Myrtos beach as well as Sami, and Sami beach. I love Agia Efimia its like Greece 20 years ago, still not overly touristy and good prices, and very freindly, just watch the places where the boats come in at lunch time as they tend to put out a different menu which is more expensive, try "The Local" In Agia Efimia the food is to die for, and Nicholas Taverna in Fiskardo, I also found a wee shop in Assos that sold kumquat form Corfu!!! Have a great time.

Thankyou for the suggestions, we go late May, really looking forward to exploring Kefalonia.
<DIV>We are staying in Lassi because the husband wanted to be near Argostoli.</DIV>
<DIV>Agia Efimia appeals to me and will certainly visit there, and Sami.

Ellenjay, I would be interested to hear your views on Lassi when you return,I stayed there 9 years ago & have heard different reports of the village. Nowhere is too far away on Kefalonia, you must visit everywhere...its just such a lovely Island.

Will do Kate.

<DIV>I have heard that Lassi does lack character, we chose it because it is near to Argostoli, the husband likes to be near a town and it sounds interesting.</DIV>
<DIV>Also not sure whether we will be hiring a car so although Ag. Efimia really appealed to me I was concerned it might be too quiet for him.</DIV>
<DIV>And Lassi sounded good for sunsets!</DIV>

People say that Lassi lacks character because they drive through it and just see the 'strip' that is the road where most of the tavernas and supermarkets are located. But if you take the parallel lanes which then lead down to the beaches - you will find small pine forests and through them glimpses of the beach and sea. It is very pretty scenery. There is a lot of competition for your business in the tavernas so you will get a warm welcome. You can walk into Argostoli which does have a more character because it is a working town and open all year round. If you want to avoid car hire you could take an excursion which departs from Lassi by coach to Aghia Efimia and then take the cruise boat either for Ithaca cruise with swimming or the 3 island Lefkas cruise. In that way you will see Ag Efimia without driving there and have a super cruise. The prices have been going down over the years rather than up.

Been back a week now from a wonderful holiday in Kefalonia, We stayed in Assos andwere blown away by it's beauty. It was a fine balance of relaxing in Assos and travelling around
the island. With 1.79 to 1.88 euros to a litre of unleaded, the roads were really quiet, we used up
120 euros worth in that week. 2 trips down to Skala for a stag and Hen do and a wedding on
Myrtos Beach with the reception in one of the Assos tavernas.
Stunning scenery, wounderful people, will definetly be back.

Glad you had a great time, so did we!
<DIV>Lassi turned out to be a great choice for us - we walked to Argostoli many times (bus backafter it had started up on 4th June)</DIV>
<DIV>We also walked to the Italian Acquis memorial and burial site, there were a few older Italian people visiting while we were there - it was very quiet and emotional.</DIV>
<DIV>We hired a car for four days and toured around - saw Myrtos from the top but did not venture down the hill! Visited a few resorts with a further visit in mind, I thought Agia Efimia would appeal to me and yes it was nice but I preferred Lourdas to my surprise!</DIV>
<DIV>I was impressed by how pretty the island is - the wild flowers were still out and the sea colours the best I have seen. </DIV>
<DIV>For those who like beaches and sand Lassi is amazing - two big more organized beaches and at least four smaller quieter ones.</DIV>

The road down to Myrtos beach Ellenjay is not as steep as Kaminaki and Pelekas beach.
<DIV>Most of the guests were brought down by coach.</DIV>
<DIV>White shingley beach and surrounded by a white cliff made the temperature rise to about 35degrees. The dissapointment on some of the girls faces when they couldn't use their high heel</DIV>
<DIV>shoes.</DIV>

Hi,
I just read your post as we're going to Kefalonia for the first time with our 2 year old. So was looking for sandy beaches, and this seems to be Lassi. But I love the look of Assos and I found an apartment in Agia Efimia and love the old Greek villages. I wondered if you knew of a nice beach here at Agia Efimia if we stayed there please, I cant seem to locate too much on the map. Thank you so much for reading and helping if you can. x
