DORIS - Animal Rescue on Kefalonia

The aim of 'DORIS' is to rescue, provide care and shelter, rehabilitate and rehome Kefalonia's stray animal population.

It tries to provide the strays with all the medical care they need and promotes a neutering program that will help birth control and public health. Moreover, 'Doris' tries to achieve the social and physical rehabilitation of the animals promoting animal adoption by individuals/families. In addition, it tries to raise public awareness and organise groups of volunteers and programs for the animal care and welfare.

The name of the animal shelter is 'ARK' (Animal Rescue Kefalonia).

ARK needs the collaboration of the local authorities, and all animal loving people interested in supporting our effort. The needs of the project are quite varied, so here are some ways n which you can help.

Donations needed of items such as pots and pans for feeding the animals, plastic toys, blankets, carpets and old clothes.
The charity also needs construction materilas such as cement, fences, etc.
Medical supplies and animal food.

Voluntary help is needed in caring for the animals - cleaning cages, feeding and excercising the animals.

ARK's aim is to find people to adopt an animal permanently. If you would like to adopt an animal financially please see the website for the charity's bank details.

If anyone is interested in doing some dog walking, the centre is open daily and there is always someone available between 11am - 5pm (usually Ben or Marina) to help with putting on collars & leads.
