Santa Maria di Leuca is the southernmost point of Salento, divided into an upper part (the proper Santa Maria di Leuca, with its monastery and lighthouse) and a lower part by the sea (named Marina di Leuca). The most impressive area of Leuca is without any doubts the monastery of 'Santa Maria de finibus Terrae', built in the 18th century in the area once occupied by a Roman temple of Minerva. The view from here is superb, and stretches all over the open blue sea. Santa Maria di Leuca is the ideal point where the rocky Apulian eastern coast meets the sandy western coast: a delight for adults and children alike.
