Ostuni overview

Ostuni overview, Ostuni, Italy, Agni Travel

Ostuni is also known as the 'white city' and is built on three hills in the southern part of Central Apulian region, just 8 km from the sea. The main occupation in the area is agriculture and farming, providing excellent cheese, wine, oil and food from the traditional masserie (local farmhouses) well known all over Italy.
After many years of history, dating back to the prehistoric era, Ostuni has now become a tourist detsination thanks to the importance and architecture of its buildings and great colour of the water on the seaside (blue flag for the year 2009).
The most peculiar characteristic of the historic centre of Ostuni comes from the whitewashed stone houses and chapels up to the rooftops, that stretch along narrow stone-paved roads lined by shops and restaurants.
The most important building of the city-centre is the Gothic cathedral, with its fresco paintings and sculptures dating back to the 15th century.
