Gallipoli and the Salento Western Coast

Gallipoli and the Salento Western Coast, Gallipoli and the west coast, Italy, Agni Travel

The town of Gallipoli is known as the 'Ionian Pearl' and is the most elite destination in Salento. Rich in services, beaches, entertainment Gallipoli has become, year by year, a favourite among tourists from all over the world.
The name Gallipoli comes from the Greek Kale Polis (beautiful city).
The beautiful historical centre of Gallipoli lies on a little island in the heart of the Ionian Sea, linked to the mainland by a short bridge.
The town centre is made of white stone houses, all lined up around small typical lanes which all lead to the cathedral, a wonderful example of local Baroccan architecture from the 17th century.
The view from all Gallipoli is stunning, and stretches for miles, across the lighthouse-island of Saint Andreas to the blue Ionian Sea.
Gallipoli offers lovely restaurants, where it will be possible to taste the best Italian seafood specialities, such as 'Spaghetti with clams' and enjoy the great flavour of the local wines.
The golden sandy beaches around Gallipoli, amongst the most famous and appreciated in Italy, are touched by a tourquoise blue sea, ideal for all the family, and a real sun trap for tanning!
Gallipoli is virtually the focal centre of the Salento Ionic (west) Coast, a true delight for the eyes, made of an combination of golden sandy beaches and rocky coves.
