The caves of Castellana are by now the biggest complex of caves in Italy, and can be found in the Murgia Area. Formed during the last millennia thanks to the constant leakage of water through the limestone ground, these caves were opened to the public for the first time in 1939.
The view that can be enjoyed during a walk through the caves (the longest itinerary is about 3 km) is amazing: stalactites, stalagmites, little lakes, ending in the "white cave" a stunning huge, shiny and scenic room formed only of white stalactites. The "white cave" is considered by most of the experts to be the best in the world.
For this reason the caves of Castellana have often been chosen as a location for movies, events and important TV shows.
