The villa is a short stroll from a child friendly sandy beach and an even shorter stroll to the taverna belonging to the owner of the villa. Here he serves mouth watering traditional Cretan dishes, fresh fish caught daily, a variety of grilled meats and local wine. The taverna has a few sun loungers and parasols on the beach for the guests and also a couple of bicycles that you can use.
There is a mini market about 200 metres away and a larger supermarket in Frangokastello about 1.5 Km away.
Spiro's Taverna, opposite the beach, serves superb homemade local food and wine.

The village of Frangokastello is named after the ruins of the fortified castle that still stands on the coastline. The village itself is strung out along the flat fine sandy beaches and the plain beneath a mountain backdrop.

Imbros GorgeThe Imbros Gorge, is close to Frangokastello, and is the second most popular gorge on Crete after Samaria for walkers. The walk is not too strenuous and can be completed in 2 or 3 hours. The scenery is beautiful and the relative ease of the hike makes it an ideal walk even for families with children.
Hora SfakionA very short drive brings you to the delightful fishing village of Hora Sfakion, famous for its whitewashed houses, the caves and churches.
LoutroFrom Hora Sfakion you can take a short ferry ride to the traditional village of Loutro. Here, seemingly cut off from the rest of the world (there is no road to the village and so no cars), you can enjoy a pleasant lunch and return on an afternoon ferry.
The Island Of GavdosA few km from the coast, you will see the island of Gavdos. (There are daily ferries from Hora Sfakion so you can visit.) The island is the most Southerly point in Europe and is well worth a visit for its curiosity value. (It only has 40 inhabitants, but has a post office, a doctor and a policeman!) ![]() |
